Easy Betta Pellets are a floating, bite-size pellet built around three whole marine proteins rather than grain. Aquarium Co-Op uses the same formula as their Easy Floating Community Pellets, sized down for a betta's mouth, and it floats for a long time, which matters for a fish that feeds at the surface and ignores anything that sinks past it. Browse our other fish foods.

Why It Floats Matters

Bettas are surface feeders with small stomachs and poor eyesight for chasing food down. A pellet that sinks quickly gets missed, rots in the substrate and fouls the water, and the fish ends up underfed anyway. These are made to sit on the surface for an extended period so your betta can take them at its own pace, and so you can see exactly how much was actually eaten.

What Is In It

Six main ingredients, and the first three are the protein:

  • Whole Anchovy Meal, Whole Krill Meal and Whole Shrimp Meal carry the bulk of the nutrition. Bettas are carnivores, so marine protein is the right base.
  • Wheat Flour, Fish Oil and Yeast act as the binder, holding the pellet together so it feeds cleanly instead of crumbling into the water column.
  • A multivitamin and mineral pack is added on top.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do I feed?
Only what the fish finishes in a couple of minutes. A betta's stomach is roughly the size of its eye, so a few pellets is a meal. Because these float, you can see what is left and scoop anything uneaten.

Will the pellets foul my water?
Far less than a sinking food, because uneaten pellets stay visible on the surface instead of disappearing into the substrate. Net out whatever is left after feeding.

My betta spits them out. Why?
Usually size or novelty. Let a pellet soften on the surface for a minute, and give a new food several days before deciding. Bettas are famously stubborn about changes.

Can I feed this to anything else?
Yes, it suits small surface-feeding community fish. For bottom dwellers you want a sinking food instead.

Can I buy this online?
No. Aquarium Co-Op products are sold in store only, so come and see us.
