Eva Aquatics Coral Cutter
Stainless coral cutters that hold an edge and do not rust out after a season of fragging. Eva Aquatics makes these in two sizes: the 5.5 in for precise work on small frags and the 8 in when you need leverage through a thick SPS base or a heavy LPS skeleton. Both sizes come in silver or black. Browse our equipment and frag tiles.
Choose Your Size
| Small, 5.5 in | Close, controlled cuts. Soft corals, zoa mats, thin branches and tidying a frag before it goes on a plug |
| Large, 8 in | More leverage and reach. Thick SPS bases, heavy LPS skeletons, and working deeper into a tank |
Silver or Black
The finish is cosmetic, not functional. Both are the same high quality stainless underneath, so pick on looks: silver is the bare polished steel, black is a dark coating that hides water spots and blends into a dim fragging station. The black costs a little more.
If you only buy one, most people reach for the 5.5 in more often. The 8 in is the one you want when the 5.5 in starts flexing instead of cutting.
Why These Hold Up
- High quality stainless, so the edge stays sharp and the tool resists rusting between sessions
- Saltwater is brutal on cheap tools. These are built to be rinsed and reused, not replaced every year
- Clean cuts matter: a crushed or torn frag base takes far longer to heal and encrust
Care, and This Part Is Not Optional
Eva Aquatics prints this on the pack, and it is the difference between a tool that lasts and one that pits:
- Rinse with fresh water after every frag session
- Pat it dry
- Leave it out somewhere with air movement until it is properly dry
Stainless resists rust, it is not immune to it. Salt left sitting in the joint is what kills these.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which size should I buy?
5.5 in for most fragging: softies, zoas, thin branches. 8 in when you are cutting thick SPS bases or heavy LPS, where the smaller tool would flex.
Will they rust?
Not if you look after them. Stainless resists corrosion but saltwater left in the pivot will eventually pit it. Rinse, dry, air it out.
Can I use them on anything other than coral?
Yes, they are a general purpose reef tool. Plenty of people use them for trimming macroalgae and cleaning up rock work.
Do they come sharpened?
Yes, ready to use out of the pack.
Does the black coating wear off?
It is a surface finish on the same stainless tool, so expect the cutting edges to show bright metal with use. That is normal and does not affect how it cuts.
