Lee's Squeeze-Bulb Siphon Starter | Hands-Free Water Change Primer for Aquarium Vacs
The Lee's Squeeze-Bulb Siphon Starter ends the "suck on the hose" school of water-change starting. Squeeze the bulb a few times and your siphon kicks on — no mouth contact, no priming, no waiting for gravity to figure itself out. Works with 1/2" ID and 3/8" ID hoses thanks to the included adapters, fitting most Lee's gravel vacs and many other brands of siphon hose. What It's For
If you've ever started a gravel vac the old-fashioned way — sucking on the hose, then frantically dropping it into a bucket — you already know why this exists. The squeeze bulb does the work for you. It also keeps any meds, salt, or fish waste safely out of your mouth. Use it on any standard aquarium siphon hose for water changes, substrate cleaning, or transferring tank water during maintenance.
Features
How to Use
Connect the bulb inline with your siphon hose using the appropriate adapter for your hose's inner diameter. Place the intake end of the hose in the aquarium and the outflow end in your bucket (positioned lower than the tank — gravity still has to do its part). Squeeze the bulb 3 – 6 times until water flows steadily out the outflow end, then stop squeezing and let the siphon run. Pinch or cap the hose when you're done draining.

FAQ
Do I really need this if I have a standard gravel vac?
No — a standard gravel vac will siphon if you tip it just right or shake it up and down to start the flow. But the squeeze bulb starts the siphon every time on the first try, doesn't require getting your hands wet, and keeps tank water out of your mouth. Once you own one, you don't go back.
Will it work with my non-Lee's gravel vac?
If your siphon hose is 1/2" or 3/8" inner diameter (the two most common sizes), yes. Most aquarium siphons match one of those sizes.
Will it suck up fish?
No — the bulb just primes the siphon. Once flowing, your gravel vac's intake end controls what gets pulled in. Use a standard vac with a wide intake to avoid grabbing small fish or shrimp.
Can I leave it attached between water changes?
Yes. Just rinse it in fresh water after use and store it with the hose. Long-term storage won't damage the rubber bulb.
