Product description

The Lifegard Super Felt Pad is a high-density, fine-pore mechanical filter pad that polishes aquarium water by trapping fine particulates the average sponge or floss can miss. Use it as a final-stage polishing layer in sumps, HOB filters, canister filters, or DIY media chambers — wherever crystal-clear water matters. Reef safe and freshwater safe. Browse all filter media & cartridges or our complete maintenance & water care lineup.

Why Use a Felt Pad

  • Polishes water — the dense felt structure traps suspended micro-debris that coarser media lets through. Tanks visibly clearer within hours.
  • Easy to cut to fit — felt cuts cleanly with scissors so you can size it to any sump baffle, filter sock holder, or HOB media slot.
  • Reusable — rinse with tank water and reuse multiple times before swapping. When it's too clogged to rinse, replace.
  • Universal use — freshwater, saltwater, planted, reef. Inert and safe for all tank types.
  • No chemical impact — purely mechanical filtration; doesn't alter water chemistry or affect bio-filtration.

How to Use

  1. Cut to fit — measure your filter chamber, sock holder, or media slot and cut the pad with sharp scissors.
  2. Rinse before first use in dechlorinated water to remove any manufacturing dust.
  3. Place as the final stage in your filter, after coarse mechanical media (sponge/floss) but before chemical media (carbon, GFO). This protects finer media from clogging too fast.
  4. Rinse weekly with tank water during water changes. Replace when rinsing no longer restores flow.

FAQ

How often should I replace it?
Rinse weekly. When the pad turns gray-brown and rinsing no longer restores good flow (typically 2–6 weeks depending on bioload), replace it.

Will it affect my biological filtration?
No — the felt is purely mechanical. It catches particles but doesn't host significant nitrifying bacteria. Your biological filtration lives on sponges, ceramic rings, and live rock.

Can I use it in a filter sock holder?
Yes — cut a square slightly larger than the holder opening and let it form to the cup. Many reefers prefer felt over filter socks for ease of cleaning and lower cost.

Is it reef safe?
Yes. The felt is inert polyester and doesn't leach anything into the water. Safe for all marine fish, corals, and inverts.
