Marina Slim Power Filter
The Marina Slim Power Filter is a compact hang-on-back (HOB) filter that clips onto the rim of your aquarium and pulls water through three stages of filtration for clean, clear, and healthy water. Its motor sits submerged inside the tank, so it runs virtually silent and re-primes itself instantly after every cleaning. Pick the S10, S15, or S20 to match your aquarium size.
Keeping your filter running clean? Stock up on replacement Bio-Carb (carbon) and Bio-Clear (zeolite) cartridges, or browse all filter media and cartridges at Squeaky's Aquatics.

Which Size Is Right for You?
Match the filter to your aquarium volume. As a rule of thumb, a power filter should turn over your tank water about four to five times per hour.
- Slim S10 suits nano and small setups up to 10 gallons, such as a betta tank, a shrimp tank, or a small community.
- Slim S15 fits mid-size community tanks up to 15 gallons and adds a second carbon cartridge for extra polishing.
- Slim S20 handles larger or more heavily stocked tanks up to 20 gallons with the highest flow and the most media capacity.
If your tank falls between two sizes, or you keep messier fish, size up for extra filtration headroom.
Cartridges and Replacements
The Marina Slim uses two easy-change cartridge types, both built around Ceramitek ceramic media:
- Bio-Carb pairs activated carbon with Ceramitek to remove odors, discoloration, and impurities.
- Bio-Clear pairs ammonia-absorbing zeolite with Ceramitek, ideal for new tanks and heavily stocked freshwater aquariums.
Plan to replace the carbon cartridge about every two to four weeks. Rinse the Ceramitek and strainer sponge in old tank water rather than replacing them, so you keep your beneficial bacteria alive.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Marina Slim come with filter media?
Yes. Each filter ships with the Bio-Carb and Bio-Clear cartridges and Ceramitek bio media it needs to run right out of the box. The number of cartridges included depends on the model.
Is it really that quiet?
The motor sits submerged inside the tank, which makes the Marina Slim one of the quieter hang-on-back filters. You will mainly hear the gentle sound of water returning to the tank, which you can soften by keeping the water level high.
Do I need to prime it after cleaning?
No. The Instant Start System re-primes the filter as soon as you plug it back in. There is no need to fill it with water first.
Can I use it in a saltwater tank?
The Marina Slim is designed for freshwater aquariums, and the included Bio-Clear zeolite cartridge works only in freshwater, so we recommend it for freshwater setups.
Will the S20 work on a smaller tank?
It can, since the flow is adjustable, but very small or calm-water species like bettas usually do better with the S10 so they are not pushed around by the current.
