Maxspect Coral Pruner
A compact coral pruner for clean, one handed cuts. Maxspect builds this as a dedicated reef tool: short enough to work accurately inside a tank, with blades that shear through a frag base rather than crushing it. Browse our equipment and frag supplies.
Why a Pruner and Not Scissors
- Bypass style blades shear past each other, so the cut face stays clean
- A crushed base heals slowly and invites infection at the cut; a clean one encrusts faster
- Compact at 8-5/8 in, so you keep control working down inside a tank
- One handed operation, which matters when the other hand is holding the colony
Care
Rinse in fresh water after every use, dry it, and let it air out fully before it goes back in the drawer. Salt sitting in the pivot is what ruins reef tools.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it cut thick SPS bases?
It handles typical frag work well. For a really heavy base or a thick LPS skeleton, a larger 8 in cutter gives you more leverage.
Can I leave it in the tank?
No. Rinse and dry it after every session, like any reef tool.
Is it reef safe to use in the water?
Yes, it is made as an in tank tool. Keep it clean and do not let salt dry in the hinge.
Freshwater use?
It will trim plants fine, but it is built and priced as a coral tool.
