Why Choose the MJ-L230

  • Reef-grade PAR — full blue + white spectrum tuned for coral growth, color, and PE (polyp extension).
  • Compact gooseneck — sleek mount fits over rimless and AIO nano tanks without crowding the display.
  • Quiet, efficient cooling — aluminum heat sink keeps temps low and lifespan long without loud fans.
  • Plug-and-play — AC-powered, no controller required to get going.
  • Same Jump series chassis as the popular MJ-L165 found in Maxspect Dice AIO builds.

Setup & Use

  • Mounting — the gooseneck arm clamps to most rimless tanks and AIO cubes; adjust height and angle for your aquascape.
  • Photoperiod — start with 6–8 hours of full intensity per day. Build up to 8–10 hours over 2–4 weeks as corals acclimate.
  • Distance — mount 6–10″ above the water surface for nano tanks; closer for higher PAR, farther for softies and lower-light corals.
  • Acclimation — new corals from lower-light systems should be placed near the bottom of the tank for the first week, then moved up gradually.

FAQ

Q: Will this grow SPS corals?
A: In nano-depth tanks (under 14″) the MJ-L230 puts out enough PAR for low-to-medium light SPS placed in the upper third. For dedicated SPS-dominant displays, consider stepping up to a controllable AquaIllumination Hydra or AI Prime.

Q: Is this a refugium light?
A: No. The MJ-L230 uses a reef spectrum (blue + white) for coral growth. For refugium / Chaetomorpha growth, use the MJ-L230R (red horticultural spectrum).

Q: Does it need a controller?
A: No — it's plug-and-play. Pair with a basic outlet timer to automate your photoperiod.

Q: What size tank is it best for?
A: Nano and small reef tanks roughly 10–40 gallons. For larger displays you'll want multiple units or a more powerful fixture.
