Seachem Flourite Black Sand is a premium, all natural clay gravel substrate for the planted aquarium, in a fine sand grade with a deep black color that makes plants, shrimp, and fish colors pop. It is not chemically coated or treated and will not alter your pH, so it stays effective for the life of the aquarium. A perfect foundation for a planted tank. Explore our live aquarium plants and freshwater range.

Why Flourite Black Sand

  • Nutrient rich clay: naturally supplies iron and trace elements to plant roots for strong growth.
  • Never needs replacing: stays effective for the life of the aquarium, no swapping out over time.
  • Won't change water chemistry: not coated or treated, so it will not alter pH.
  • Deep black sand grade: a fine texture that shows off plants and livestock color.

How to Use

Rinse gently before adding to reduce the initial cloudiness, then lay down roughly 1 to 2 lb per gallon for a healthy planting depth. Fill the tank slowly by pouring water onto a plate or bowl so you do not disturb the bed. Flourite works best used on its own, but it can also be mixed with other gravels. A little cloudiness is normal at first and clears within a few hours as the filter runs.

FAQ

Do I need to rinse it first?

Will it change my water parameters?
No. Flourite is not chemically coated or treated and will not alter your pH.

How much do I need?
Plan for about 1 to 2 lb per gallon for a good planting depth. Deeper beds suit heavily rooted plants.

Does it wear out?
No. Flourite stays effective for the life of the aquarium and never needs replacing.
