Product description

Seachem Tidal Foam is the replacement mechanical foam sponge for the Seachem Tidal series of hang on back power filters. It is the first stage of filtration in your Tidal, catching detritus, uneaten food, and other large debris before water reaches your biological and chemical media. A clean foam protects your filter's flow rate and helps the rest of your media last longer. Sold as a 2-pack and sized to fit the Tidal 35, 55, 75, and 110.

Complete all three stages of filtration by pairing it with the fine Tidal Polishing Pad and Tidal Matrix Carbon, or browse more filter media and cartridges.

What It Does

  • Mechanical filtration. Traps detritus, waste, and large particulates before they break down and cloud your water.
  • First stage of filtration. Water flows through the foam before it reaches your chemical and biological media.
  • Protects your other media. Keeping debris off your carbon and biomedia lets them work longer between changes.
  • Restores flow. Swapping in a fresh sponge brings back water flow once the old one clogs.
  • Convenient 2-pack. Keep one in the filter and one on the shelf, ready to go.

Choose Your Size

Each foam is cut to fit one Tidal model. Match the number on the pack to the number on your filter.

This foam Fits filter Filter rated for Pack
Tidal 35 Seachem Tidal 35 up to 35 gallons 2 sponges
Tidal 55 Seachem Tidal 55 up to 55 gallons 2 sponges

How to Use

  • Between replacements, rinse a clogged sponge in old tank water, never tap water, to preserve beneficial bacteria and extend its life.
  • Replace the foam when it stays matted or no longer springs back, usually every few months depending on your stocking and feeding.
  • Stagger your maintenance. Avoid changing the foam and the rest of your media at the same time so your biological colony stays stable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which foam do I need?

Match the number to your filter. A Tidal 75 filter uses the Tidal 75 foam. The number is printed on the front of your filter and on the pack.

How often should I replace it?

Rinse it during water changes and replace it every few months, or sooner if it no longer springs back. Heavy stocking and feeding wear it out faster.

Freshwater or saltwater?

Both. The foam is inert and works the same in freshwater, planted, and marine setups.

How many come in a pack?

Two sponges per pack, so you always have a spare ready to swap in.
