The Aquatic Life Classic Sediment & Carbon Plus Filtration Unit is a compact two-stage system that removes sediment and reduces chlorine and chloramine before the water reaches your aquarium or RO/DI system. It is a practical first step for cleaner freshwater aquarium water and an effective pretreatment stage that helps protect an RO membrane from disinfectants and debris.

Why It Works

• 5-micron sediment stage: Captures dirt, sand, silt, rust, and other particulate matter.
• 0.5-micron Carbon Plus stage: Reduces both chlorine and chloramine before they can damage an RO membrane.
• High chloramine capacity: Rated for greater than 98% chloramine reduction at 3 ppm for 3,000 gallons at 0.5 GPM.
• High chlorine capacity: Rated for greater than 99% chlorine reduction at 2 ppm for 30,000 gallons at 0.5 GPM.
• Standard replaceable cartridges: Uses serviceable sediment and Carbon Plus cartridges inside full-size canister housings.
• Flexible installation: Includes tubing and both straight and angled press fittings so the water path can be routed to suit the installation.

Maintenance

Replace the sediment cartridge every 3 to 6 months or after about 3,500 gallons. Replace the Carbon Plus cartridge after about 3,000 gallons when treating 3 ppm chloramine. Actual service life varies with local water quality, contaminant levels, pressure, and use.

FAQ

Does this unit make zero-TDS water?
No. It is a sediment, chlorine, and chloramine pretreatment system. Add an RO membrane and DI stage when zero-TDS aquarium water is required.

Can it be used with chloraminated tap water?
Yes. The Carbon Plus cartridge is specifically rated to reduce chloramine as well as chlorine.

Is it suitable for freshwater and saltwater aquariums?
Yes. It can condition source water for freshwater use and serves as a valuable pretreatment stage ahead of an RO/DI system for reef and saltwater aquariums.
