Aquatic Life Mixed Bed Resin DI Cartridge
The Aquatic Life Mixed Bed Resin DI Cartridge is the final polishing stage in a reverse osmosis / deionization system, the step that takes already-clean RO water down to a true 0 TDS. It is packed with mixed bed resin, a blend of cation and anion exchange beads that strip out the last dissolved ions an RO membrane leaves behind. The result is the ultra-pure water that reef tanks, planted aquariums, and sensitive fish depend on for stable, algae-resistant conditions.
How It Works
Water that has already passed through your sediment, carbon, and RO membrane stages flows through this cartridge last. The mixed resin grabs the remaining ions, including silicates and phosphates that feed nuisance algae, and polishes the water to 0 TDS. The color-indicating resin gradually changes shade as it exhausts, giving you an easy visual cue to pair with your TDS meter so you know exactly when it is time for a fresh cartridge.

When To Replace
Swap the DI cartridge when your TDS meter reads above 0 to 1 on the final output, or when the resin has fully changed color. DI resin is the stage that exhausts fastest because it does the finest polishing, so keeping a spare on hand means you are never caught with cloudy water on water-change day. Replacing your sediment and carbon stages on schedule helps your DI resin last longer.

Questions & Answers
What does the DI stage do that the RO membrane does not?
An RO membrane removes most dissolved solids but not quite all of them. The mixed bed DI resin polishes off the remaining ions to reach a true 0 TDS, which is important for reef tanks and other sensitive systems.
How do I know when to change it?
Use a TDS meter on the final output. When it climbs above 0 to 1, the resin is spent. The color-indicating resin also changes shade as it exhausts, giving you a second visual confirmation.
Will it fit my system?
This is a standard inline DI cartridge for reverse osmosis / deionization systems. It works in Aquatic Life RODI units and other systems that use the same cartridge format.
Do I need pure water for a freshwater tank too?
It helps. Starting with 0 TDS water lets you dial in exact parameters, avoid unwanted minerals, and reduce algae, which benefits planted tanks, shrimp, and soft-water species as much as reef tanks.
