IceCap Bio-Sphere Pellet
High-capacity ceramic biological media for a healthy, well-cycled tank. IceCap Bio-Sphere Pellets are dense ceramic spheres with an ultra-high surface area, engineered to host the huge colonies of beneficial bacteria that drive your aquarium's nitrogen cycle. Each pellet delivers biological filtration for up to 5 gallons, so a single 1KG box of 145 pellets supports up to 750 gallons in freshwater, marine, or pond systems.
Seed the media quickly with a bacteria starter like Seachem Stability, and browse the rest of our filter media & cartridges.
Why Bio-Sphere Pellets
- Ultra-high surface area for maximum beneficial bacteria colonization and efficient nutrient cycling.
- Durable ceramic beads that hold their structure and will not crumble or cloud your water.
- pH neutral (7.0 to 7.5), so it will not shift your water chemistry.
- Freshwater, marine, and pond safe, one media for every kind of system.
- Mesh media bag included for easy, mess-free placement.
Where to Use It
Bio-Sphere Pellets work anywhere water flows through them. Load them into a sump, trickle or wet/dry filter, canister, media reactor, or hang-on-back filter, or set the included mesh bag right in the aquarium. For the best results, place the media after your mechanical stage (foam or floss) so it stays clear of debris and keeps its flow.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much media do I need?
Each pellet handles about 5 gallons, and a 1KG box of 145 pellets covers up to 750 gallons. Use more for heavily stocked tanks. Extra bio-media only adds stability, so you cannot really overdo it.
Freshwater or saltwater?
Both. Bio-Sphere Pellets are pH neutral and work in freshwater, reef and marine, and pond systems.
Do I ever need to replace it?
Rarely. Ceramic bio-media is long-lasting. If it clogs, rinse it gently in old tank water, never in tap water (chlorine kills the bacteria). Only swap out pellets that physically break down.
How do I start it up?
Seed new media with a bacteria supplement like Seachem Stability and give it a few weeks to fully colonize before adding a heavy bioload.
