Hot Dogs, Raffle Prizes, and a Wall of New Gear
The full story behind this week's newsletter: our Fourth of July cookout and raffle, the first reptile gear on the shelves and this week's markdowns.
Welcome back to your weekly stop at Squeaky's Aquatics. This is the big one: this weekend we are throwing a Fourth of July cookout with a free raffle stacked with aquarium gear, and inside the shop the first wave of reptile equipment just landed, months ahead of the livestock. Here is everything happening this week, plus a timely tip if you are traveling for the holiday.
The Fourth of July, Squeaky's Style
Saturday July 4 and Sunday July 5, 11am to 4pm both days, out front of the shop.
The hot dog roller runs 11am to 4pm on both days. Free hot dogs, sides, and cold drinks under the tent while supplies last, plus free giveaways from our sponsors Seachem and Fritz, handed out first come, first served all weekend. Both sides of the family are in on it, Squeaky's Aquatics and Squeaky's Trains alike.
The shop itself is open well beyond the cookout: 10am to 7pm Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday. Come early or stay late, the tanks are not going anywhere.
5-Gallon All-in-One Starter Tank
Light, filter, heater, glass lid, and gravel, the whole kit. Everything someone needs to start the hobby.
Seachem Division 125 Protein Skimmer
A serious upgrade for any saltwater setup.
Sicce Aqua Filtra
A compact, quiet all-in-one internal filter.
Sicce Ultra Zero Pump
A whisper-quiet utility pump for water changes, circulation, or a custom build.
Fritz Care Package
Conditioners and supplements to keep your water and fish healthy.
Juwel AquaClean Gravel Cleaner
Makes substrate cleaning during water changes easy.
$50 Squeaky's Trains Gift Card
For the model-railroad side of the shop, or for you. We do not judge.
And while you are here for the hot dogs, keep an eye out for our in-person 4th of July specials running all weekend at the shop. The sale tags will be easy to spot, and they are in-store only, so this is the weekend to come browse the tanks in person.

Just Swam In
A big week for gear, including some that never gets wet.
The headline of a whole wall of Exo Terra gear that just landed: misting systems, foggers, heat mats, thermostats, dishes, substrate, and more. The reptile chapter we promised is officially underway.
A gorgeous rimless all-in-one that hides the filtration and shows off the aquascape, cabinet stand and light included. The planted tank of your dreams is sitting on our floor right now.
An easy first step into CO2 for planted tanks, no pressurized cylinder required. Greener growth without the plumbing project.
Bottled fresh. The six-species phytoplankton blend feeds corals, clams, and pods a broader meal than any single strain, and the Reef Snacklebox copepods bring your rockwork to life. We just gave Dinkins its own corner of the site, so the whole line is one click away.
Marked Down This Week
The online headliners. And a heads up: even MORE deals are in-store only this weekend.
Half off a complete all-in-one nano: rimless cube, rear filtration, and the MJ-L165 LED included. An entire nano setup in one box, at the best price we have ever put on it.
Moody, purple-black, and severely underrated. A school of these over a planted scape looks incredible.
Sends up gorgeous red-tinted leaves and asks for almost nothing. An easy centerpiece plant for any freshwater tank.
Fresh Out of Quarantine
Every fish we sell earns its showroom spot the hard way: a full stay in our quarantine room first.
These just finished their QT stay and moved out to the showroom tanks over the past two weeks, healthy, eating well, and ready to meet you:
A big group, fully saltwater-acclimated, and moved to the showroom just this week. Hardy, active, and a fun oddball for a marine setup.
Polka dots, racing stripes, and glowing eyes, all on one peaceful little fish. Hardy, reef-safe, and happiest in a small group.
Tiny lemon-drop charmers that perch on coral branches and watch the room. Huge personality in a two-inch package.
A bold, elegant showpiece with that signature black saddle. A stunner for the fish-only and FOWLR crowd.
A gorgeous algae grazer with soft chocolate tones and a clean white cheek patch.
The classic shimmering schooler that makes any reef tank look alive.
A female Blue Throat, one of the most reef-friendly triggers in the hobby. Bold looks, mellow manners.
A whole school of these shimmering little Aussie rainbows, endlessly busy and perfect for smaller community tanks.
Big, healthy schools of both community classics, quarantined and settled. Rummynose noses are glowing red, which is exactly what you want to see.
Showroom fish move fast, especially on a cookout weekend. Come meet them in person at the shop.
Just Landed, In Quarantine Now
The top grabs from this week's arrivals, doing their QT time now and hitting the showroom over the next couple of weeks.
A big school of these fiery little red rainbows from West Papua. Small tank friendly and absolutely glowing once settled.
Eighty assorted fancies just arrived, every color of the rainbow. Breeders, take note.
Nearly fifty assorted corys and a small army of sixty-plus otos. Your algae never stood a chance.
Three classic schoolers in one shipment, all quarantining side by side.
The Lake Tanganyika catfish that actually plays nice, plus a fresh batch of young Africans to grow out with them.
The first batch barely hit the showroom before we ordered more. In QT now if you missed round one.
Want first dibs when something graduates? Call the shop at 470-207-3434 and we will hold your name against it.
Leaving Town for the Holiday? Your Fish Are Fine
The kindest thing you can do before a long weekend away is mostly nothing.
Healthy adult fish handle a three or four day fast without any trouble at all. What actually causes holiday disasters is overcompensating: a huge farewell feeding, or one of those dissolving vacation feeder blocks, either of which can foul the water while nobody is home to notice. Before you leave, do a small water change, top off evaporation, check that the heater and filter are running, and then just go. If you will be gone longer than a few days, pre-portion meals into labeled cups for a friend, because well-meaning fish sitters are the most generous overfeeders on Earth.
Trivia, Answered
From this week's newsletter: the graceful angelfish in our deals has a surprising family. Which famously feisty group of fish does it belong to?
On The Calendar
One big weekend, then we catch our breath.
Free cookout under the tent, sponsor giveaways, and the free aquarium-gear raffle detailed above. Winners drawn Sunday at 4pm.
See every event, sale, and special hours on our store calendar.
The Road Ahead
Where we are taking the shop next.
New tank backgrounds, starting with saltwater
Fresh background colors behind the display tanks so the fish and coral really pop. We are rolling it out on the saltwater systems first, then working our way across the store.
More tanks, more water, more life
We are adding tanks and water volume across the floor, which means more room for more livestock and more to see every time you visit.
Reptiles, turtles, and frogs: the gear is here
This one is no longer just a promise. The first wall of Exo Terra equipment landed this week, misting systems, heat, humidity, and habitat gear, with the animals themselves to follow. Watch this space.
And always more
We never stop upgrading. There is always a next project on the bench, and a lot of it is thanks to you. Every visit and every order helps us grow.
Coming Soon: A Revised Rewards Program
An easier way to see your rewards, with more ways to use them.
Our rewards program is getting an upgrade. The revised version makes it much easier to check your points balance, and it opens up more ways to earn and redeem them. Already have points with us? Do not worry, none of them will be lost, they carry straight over to the new system. We will let you know the moment it goes live, so keep an eye on the newsletter.
