ATI Fiji White Sand
A brilliant white, high-purity reef sand. ATI Fiji White Sand is a fine, natural aragonite substrate for saltwater aquariums. ATI states it is made up of 99.6% calcium and magnesium compounds and is free of organic and mineral impurities, which makes it one of the purest substrates available. The bright white grain reflects light back up into the tank, and its higher density helps it stay in place in strong flow. Each 20 lb bag comes in your choice of three grain sizes. Build it out with corals and the rest of your saltwater setup.
Why Fiji White Sand
- High purity: 99.6% calcium and magnesium compounds, free of organic and mineral impurities (per ATI)
- Brilliant white for corals: the white sand reflects light exceptionally well, brightening the aquarium and sending diffuse light up to coral tissue from below, an effect also found on natural reefs
- Stays put: significantly higher density than conventional aragonite sand, so it drifts less and suits strong, current-intensive areas
- Natural aragonite sand for all seawater aquariums, reef-friendly with no coatings
Choose Your Grain Size
| Grain | Size | Best For (per ATI) |
|---|---|---|
| S (Small) | 0.3 to 1.2 mm | Fine grain with a very natural look, well suited to burrowing animals |
| M (Medium) | 1.0 to 2.0 mm | Universal grain size, the all-round choice for most reef aquariums |
| L (Large) | 2.0 to 3.0 mm | Coarser grain that stays stable even in strong currents |
How to Use
- Rinse the sand thoroughly several times, until the water runs mostly clear
- Add it to the aquarium; ATI recommends a layer about 2 cm (roughly 3/4 inch) deep for best results

FAQ
Do I need to rinse it?
Yes. ATI recommends rinsing it thoroughly several times until the water runs mostly clear before adding it to the aquarium.
Which grain size should I choose?
M (1.0 to 2.0 mm) is ATI's all-round size for most reefs. Choose S for a fine, natural bed and burrowing animals, or L if your tank has strong flow.
Is it live sand?
ATI does not sell it as a live, bacteria-seeded sand, and it is rinsed before use, so seed a new tank with live rock or a bacteria starter as you normally would.
How deep should the bed be?
ATI recommends a layer of about 2 cm for optimum results.
