Dinkins Aquatic Gardens Freshwater Snacklebox
The Dinkins Aquatic Gardens Freshwater Snacklebox is a living blend of freshwater pods, combining daphnia and moina to add biodiversity, nutrition, and a working clean-up crew to your freshwater aquarium. It is the freshwater answer to the reef refugium: a self-renewing food source that also helps keep the tank tidy.
Feed the fish that will hunt them by browsing our freshwater livestock, or round out feeding time with our other fish foods.
What Freshwater Pods Do
Daphnia and moina are tiny scavengers that tackle algae and clear detritus and uneaten food, getting into places snails and other clean-up crew cannot reach. Even better, they are a fantastic live food. Your fish graze on them throughout the day, which keeps fish content between feedings and can even help keep them fed while you are away from home.
- Live daphnia and moina blend
- Graze algae and clear detritus and leftover food
- A nutritious, natural live food fish hunt all day
- Will not overpopulate a stocked tank the way some pests can
Choose Your Size
Two jar sizes are available so you can match the boost to your tank:
| 8 oz | A starter portion for nano and lightly stocked tanks, or a top-up culture. |
| 16 oz | A generous portion for larger or more heavily stocked freshwater aquariums. |
How to Add Them
Pour the pods straight into your tank, or add them to a low-flow area or a planted corner where some can settle and reproduce before the fish find them all. Because live freshwater pods are a natural food source, their population self-limits, so they will not take over the way snails sometimes do. You get the best of both worlds: a cleaner tank and well-fed fish.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between daphnia and moina?
Both are small freshwater crustaceans often called water fleas. Moina are a bit smaller, which makes the blend a good size range for everything from nano fish to larger community species.
Will the pods take over my tank?
No. In a stocked tank the fish keep grazing them, so the population self-limits. In a quiet planted corner a few will breed and provide a trickle of ongoing live food.
Can I culture them to keep a supply going?
Yes. Daphnia and moina culture readily in a separate container with gentle aeration and green water or a little yeast, so a jar can become an ongoing food source.
Are they safe for all freshwater fish?
They are a natural, easily digested food for the vast majority of freshwater community fish. Match the pod size to your fish, and use the smaller moina for the tiniest mouths.
