The Micro Tiger Rasbora (Danio erythromicron), also known as the Emerald Dwarf Rasbora, packs emerald-blue tiger bars, a copper-orange body, and ruby-red fins into a fish that stays around an inch long. It is a peaceful, easygoing nano schooler for mature planted tanks, perfect for aquascapes and desktop setups where larger community fish would feel out of scale. Pair it with more of our freshwater livestock to build a complete nano community.

Care Guide

  • Tank size: 5 gallons minimum, 10 gallons or more is ideal for a full school.
  • Water: 70 to 78ยฐF, pH 7.0 to 8.0, moderately hard. This species comes from Lake Inle in Myanmar, where the water is hard and alkaline, so there is no need to chase soft, acidic conditions.
  • School size: keep 8 or more. In small groups they stay hidden. In a proper school the males color up and display out in the open.
  • Aquascape: dense planting, a dark substrate, and gentle flow. Mosses and fine-leaved plants give shy adults cover and make the colors pop. A tight-fitting lid is smart for any nano fish.
  • Feeding: small mouths need small foods. Crushed flakes, nano pellets, baby brine shrimp, and daphnia all work well. Feed small amounts once or twice daily.

Compatibility

Micro Tiger Rasboras are completely peaceful and safe with adult dwarf shrimp. Great tank mates include the Celestial Pearl Danio (its closest cousin), Ember Tetras, Amano Shrimp, and nerite snails like the Batman Nerite. Skip anything large or boisterous. Even peaceful mid-size fish can intimidate them into hiding, and bigger predatory mouths will treat them as a snack.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same fish as the Emerald Dwarf Rasbora?
Yes. Micro Tiger Rasbora and Emerald Dwarf Rasbora are trade names for the same species, Danio erythromicron. Despite the rasbora name, it is actually a true danio and a close relative of the Celestial Pearl Danio.

How many should I start with?
At least 8. This is a shy schooling species, and a bigger group means bolder fish, better color, and more natural behavior.

Is it shrimp safe?
Yes. Adults are safe with adult dwarf shrimp, though like most micro predators they may pick off newborn shrimplets in an unplanted tank. Dense moss solves that.

Can it live with a betta?
We do not recommend it. A betta can fit a Micro Tiger Rasbora in its mouth, and the rasboras will spend their lives hiding from it.
