Seachem Reef Dip
Seachem Reef Dip is an elemental iodine coral dip that safely and gently disinfects corals against bacteria, fungus, and protozoans. The iodine is held in a protective slime-coat complex that clings to the coral, keeping it in contact with the affected site longer and helping prevent re-infection. Use it as a preventive quarantine dip for new arrivals or to treat ailing colonies, on both stony and soft corals as well as anemones and polyps. Browse our full range of reef additives and supplements and the rest of the Seachem lineup.
What It Treats
- Bacterial infections on corals
- Fungal infections
- Protozoan infections and irritation
- General quarantine dipping for new corals before they enter your display
Why Reefers Use It
- Gentle on corals. Safe for stony and soft corals, anemones, and polyps when used as directed.
- Slime-coat complex. Holds iodine against the affected area longer and helps block re-infection.
- Preventive or remedial. Dip new arrivals to reduce risk, or treat colonies showing signs of infection.
- Targeted option. For stubborn lesions, the concentrate can be painted directly on the spot before dipping.
How to Use
Reef Dip is a dip, not a tank additive. In a clean separate container, mix 5 to 10 mL (1 to 2 capfuls) for every 4 litres (about 1 US gallon) of aquarium water. Place the coral in the dip for 15 to 30 minutes depending on severity, agitating gently, then rinse and return it to the tank. Do not pour the dip solution into your aquarium; discard it after use. Remove any crabs or shrimp from the coral before dipping, and watch for excessive sliming during treatment.

FAQ
Can I add Reef Dip directly to my tank?
No. It is a dip used in a separate container. Mix the dip, treat the coral, then discard the solution. Never pour it into your display aquarium.
Is it safe for SPS, LPS, and soft corals?
Yes. It is safe for stony and soft corals as well as anemones and polyps when used at the recommended ratio and dip time.
How long should I dip a coral?
Generally 15 to 30 minutes, leaning longer for more severe infections. Watch the coral and end the dip early if it slimes heavily or looks stressed.
Should I dip new corals before adding them?
Dipping new arrivals is a smart quarantine step that helps reduce the chance of introducing pests or disease to an established reef.
