Product description

The Seachem Tidal Power Filter is a hang-on-back (HOB) filter built around a quiet, energy-efficient pump engineered by Sicce in Italy. It self-primes, monitors its own maintenance schedule, and packs an oversized media basket so you can run mechanical, chemical, and biological filtration all at once. Available in four sizes for aquariums up to 35, 55, 75, and 110 gallons, freshwater or saltwater. Browse the full Seachem collection or all of our filtration gear.

Just add water and plug it in. Every Tidal is fully self-priming with a Sicce-engineered pump, a one-touch maintenance monitor on the lid, and a large-capacity basket you customize with your own media. No mess, no manual siphoning.

How It Works

The Tidal hangs on the back rim of your aquarium and draws water up through a single large media basket. Water passes through mechanical media (to trap debris), then chemical media (to polish and remove impurities), then biological media (to grow the beneficial bacteria that process ammonia and nitrite), and finally spills back into the tank through a reversible cover. Because the pump sits at the top and is self-priming, startup is as simple as filling the chamber and switching it on.

Which Size Is Right for You?

Tidal 35 · Nano tanks and small community setups up to 35 gallons. The compact pick when space behind the tank is tight.

Tidal 55 · The all-rounder for 40 to 55 gallon tanks, and the first size to add the telescoping surface-skimming intake and heater holder.

Tidal 75 · More flow and a bigger basket for 55 to 75 gallon tanks or anything with a heavier fish load.

Tidal 110 · The workhorse for large, heavily stocked aquariums up to 110 gallons. Also a smart choice if you want to over-filter a smaller tank and turn the flow down.

Setting Up Your Media

Each Tidal ships ready to run with Seachem Matrix biological media and a foam pad included. To build a complete three-stage setup, layer a fine polishing pad on top for mechanical clarity, activated carbon in the middle for chemical polishing, and Matrix on the bottom for biological filtration. Rinse media in old tank water, never tap water, so you protect your beneficial bacteria.

FAQ

Does it work for both freshwater and saltwater?
Yes. Every Tidal model runs on freshwater, planted, and marine aquariums.

Does it come with filter media?
Yes. Each filter includes Seachem Matrix biological media and a foam pad to get you started. Add a polishing pad and carbon for full three-stage filtration.

Is it quiet?
The Sicce-engineered pump is built for quiet running, and because the Tidal is self-priming there is no rattling air to purge at startup.

How often do I clean it?
The maintenance monitor on the lid counts the days for you. Most tanks need a rinse every two to four weeks depending on stocking. Always rinse media in tank water, not tap water.

Can I run a big filter on a small tank?
Yes. The adjustable flow dial lets you turn output down, so a larger Tidal can gently over-filter a smaller aquarium.
