Why bromine matters
- Coral tissue: Bromine is built into the tissue of soft corals, leather corals and gorgonians; a deficiency often leads to noticeably weaker tissue.
- Microbial activity: Supports healthy microbial activity on live rock.
- Ecosystem balance: Low levels can raise the risk of biofilm problems and unwanted algae.
Common causes of a deficiency (per ATI): low concentrations in standard salt mixes, too little trace-element supplementation, or heavy use of chemical filtration media such as activated carbon and zeolite.
