ATI Phos Stop GFO - 1000 mL
ATI Phos Stop is an iron-based granular ferric oxide (GFO) for fast, reliable removal of phosphate and silicate, the nutrients behind many nuisance algae outbreaks. It also binds organic compounds and heavy metals such as copper, and holds what it binds even as it nears exhaustion. This size is 1000 mL (650 g, 1.4 lb).
Performance
- Phosphate and silicate: Removes up to 15,000 mg phosphate and 10,000 mg silicate per kg in marine water.
- Heavy metals: Binds up to 8,000 mg of heavy metals such as copper per kg.
- Surface area: 230 m²/g for efficient adsorption.
- Stable: Chemically stable iron-based structure suited to reef systems.
How to use
- ATI targets phosphate at 0.03 to 0.1 mg/L (ppm) and silicate below 0.1 mg/L (ppm)
- Use 50 to 150 mL (about 30 to 90 g) per 100 L (26 gal); adjust to your nutrient levels
- Rinse briefly with RODI water before use
- Recommended: a media reactor on slow flow, gently fluidized or held steady, not tumbling
- No reactor? Place it in a mesh bag in a high-flow area and knead the bag occasionally (outside the water) to prevent clumping
- Replace when phosphate or silicate stops falling or starts to rise

Frequently Asked Questions
How low should phosphate go? ATI's target is 0.03 to 0.1 mg/L; don't strip it to zero.
Reactor or bag? A reactor on slow flow is recommended; a mesh bag in high flow works if you don't have one.
When do I replace it? When your phosphate or silicate readings stop dropping or begin to rise.
