Bacopa Monnieri - Cup
Your order is reserved — we hold off on packaging until you arrive, so it stays healthy in its display tank.
Bacopa Monnieri (Bacopa monnieri) is one of the easiest stem plants you can grow — a bright green succulent-like plant that climbs vertically with rounded, glossy leaves. Tolerant of a huge range of conditions and lighting, it's a go-to background plant for beginner and intermediate planted tanks. Tissue-cultured in a cup — clean, snail-free, and pesticide-free for safe use in shrimp tanks. Pair with the rest of our freshwater plants.

Why Bacopa Monnieri
- Beginner-friendly stem — thrives in low-tech tanks; one of the most forgiving stem plants on the market.
- Bright green focal contrast — its lighter green pops against darker plants like Bucephalandra and crypts.
- Tissue culture cup — clean, snail-free, pesticide-free; safe for shrimp tanks straight from the cup.
- Pond + emersed friendly — the same plant works in indoor low-tech tanks and outdoor patio ponds.
- Easy to propagate — cut tops and replant; each cutting roots fast and fills in the background quickly.
How to Plant
- Rinse the tissue culture gel off in dechlorinated water and separate into individual stems.
- Plant stems 1–2 inches apart in the substrate, burying the bottom 1–2 nodes (where leaves attach).
- Trim tops as the plant grows; replant cuttings to thicken the back of the scape.
- Pair root tabs near the base for fastest growth in inert substrate.
Recommended Pairings
- Bacopa Compact White — the smaller, white-variegated cousin for foreground variety.
- Dwarf Hairgrass — green carpet contrast under tall Bacopa stems.
- Rotala Vietnam H'ra — add red stem plant contrast next to bright green Bacopa.
- More freshwater plants — round out your aquascape.
FAQ
Will it grow in low light?
Yes. Bacopa stays upright but grows leggier in low light, with longer internode spacing. Higher light keeps it compact and bushy.
Can I keep it without CO₂?
Absolutely. It’s a top low-tech choice. CO₂ just speeds growth and tightens form.
Is Bacopa Monnieri the same as Brahmi?
Yes — Brahmi is its common name in herbal medicine. The aquarium and herb plant are the same species; we sell aquarium-cultivated stems.
Will my fish or shrimp eat it?
Almost never — leaves are thick and slightly succulent, so most fish leave them alone. Shrimp may graze biofilm without damaging the plant.
