How to Use

• Pull off a piece a little larger than the space you are filling, then tuck it in. Do not pack it tight, since water has to pass through it, not around it.
• In a canister, it goes in the last basket the water passes through, so the coarse pads take the big debris first.
• In a wet/dry or sump, lay it across the drip tray or in the first chamber.
• In a hang-on filter, use it as a polishing layer behind or in place of a worn cartridge.
• Replace it rather than washing it. Floss is a consumable, and rinsing mats the fibers and costs you flow.
• Stagger it with your other media changes so you are not resetting the whole filter at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is filter fiber the same thing as filter floss?
Yes. Blue Ribbon prints "Polyester Filter Fiber" on the bag; the hobby calls the same material filter floss.

Can I use it in a saltwater tank?
Yes. The bag is labeled for freshwater, marine and pond filtration.

Should I rinse it and reuse it?
Better to replace it. Rinsing packs the fibers down and restricts flow, and at this price a fresh piece is the easier call.

How often do I change it?
When flow drops off or the floss goes visibly dirty. In a heavily stocked tank that can be weekly; in a lightly stocked one it runs much longer.

Will it lower ammonia or nitrate?
Not directly. It is mechanical filtration that also hosts bacteria. For ammonia and nitrate you want a cycled filter, water changes, and chemical media where appropriate.
