Brightwell AngeLixir 250mL | Amino Acid Food Soak for Marine Angels & Butterflies
Your order is reserved — we hold off on bagging until you arrive, so it stays in stable storage as long as possible.
Brightwell AngeLixir is a free-form amino acid food soak formulated for spongivorous marine fishes — angelfishes, butterflyfishes, Moorish Idols, and their allies that struggle to get balanced protein from standard prepared diets. The amino acid complex matches the ratios found in natural sponge tissue, the foundation of these species' wild diet. Browse the rest of our reef & aquarium nutrition to round out your feeding rotation.
Why AngeLixir
- Sponge-matched amino acid profile. Free-form amino acids in the same ratios found in marine sponge tissue — the protein source angels and butterflies are biologically wired to seek.
- Boosts feeding response. Natural attractants and marine-derived proteins entice picky eaters off the rocks and onto your prepared foods.
- Brighter coloration. Amino acids are direct precursors to the pigments that give marine fish their vibrant reds, yellows, and blues.
- Faster tissue repair. Provides the building blocks for new tissue growth — great after nipping, transport, or spawning stress.
- Increases protein density. Soaking raises the effective protein content of frozen, freeze-dried, and prepared foods.
- Formulated on real sponge science. Built from analysis of sponge tissue and marine finfish nutritional culture data.
How to Use
For frozen foods:
- Rinse the food in a fine-mesh net under cool running water until thawed; discard the freezing solution.
- Squeeze out as much excess liquid as possible.
- Place the food in a clean bowl or cup; add only enough AngeLixir to saturate.
- Wait 5 minutes, then feed.
For freeze-dried & prepared foods:
- Place the food in a clean bowl or cup; add only enough AngeLixir to saturate.
- Wait 5 minutes, then feed.
Frequency: Repeat 3–5 times per day to make sure fish get adequate intake, especially during quarantine, recovery, or when first transitioning a wild-caught angel onto prepared foods.
Best For
- Marine angelfish (dwarf and large) — Centropyge, Pomacanthus, Holacanthus
- Butterflyfish — Chaetodon, Heniochus, and Copperband Chelmon rostratus
- Moorish Idols (Zanclus cornutus) — notoriously tough to feed; AngeLixir is a staple in any serious Idol setup
- Other spongivores and obligate omnivores in marine reef and FOWLR systems

FAQ
Can I just dump AngeLixir straight into the tank?
No — it's designed as a food soak, not a tank additive. Dosing the water column wastes product and can spike nutrients. Always saturate the food first, wait 5 minutes, then feed.
Will it nuke my nitrates or phosphates?
Used as directed (food soak only), no. The amino acids are taken up by the fish rather than dissolved across the tank. Avoid overfeeding the prepared food itself.
How often should I use it?
For new arrivals, picky eaters, or recovering fish: 3–5 small feedings per day. For established eaters: once or twice daily is plenty.
Is it just for angelfish?
The name is for angels but the formula benefits any spongivore — butterflies, Moorish Idols, and many large omnivores benefit from sponge-derived amino acids in their diet.
Refrigerate after opening?
Yes. Refrigerate to preserve the amino acids and extend shelf life. Keep capped tightly between uses.
