Product description

The Brightwell Aquatics Phosphat-E Pro is the professional-strength version of Brightwell's liquid phosphate remover. It binds reactive phosphate in the water column so your filter sock or protein skimmer can pull it out, and the label rates it for all marine and freshwater aquaria. Brightwell says it is over 50% stronger than most competing products and safe for all inhabitants of reef and marine fish-only aquaria. Browse our other saltwater supplies.

Features

  • Professional strength. Per Brightwell, 1 drop eliminates 0.5 ppm of reactive phosphate in 1.7 US gallons of water.
  • Works with the filtration you already run. Bound phosphate is removed by mechanical filtration (a 5 to 10 micron filter sock) or by protein skimming.
  • Reef safe. Brightwell rates it safe for all inhabitants of reef and marine fish-only aquaria.
  • Freshwater and marine. The bottle is labeled FW/Marine for use in both.
  • Dosed by the drop. A dropper-tip bottle lets you measure small, controlled doses.

How to Dose

Basic dosing (Brightwell's directions):

  1. Test phosphate with an accurate test kit before you start.
  2. Add up to 3 drops per 10 US gallons every 12 hours, at the intake of a 5 to 10 micron filter sock.
  3. For maintenance, dose at the same rate once a week to keep phosphate undetectable.
  4. Lower phosphate slowly. Brightwell recommends spreading the reduction over 7 to 8 days or longer.

Advanced dosing: tank volume in US gallons x desired ppm decrease x 1.2 = number of drops. Example: a 150 gallon tank that needs a 0.04 ppm decrease gets 7.2 drops. Never exceed 6 drops per 10 US gallons per day. If corals or invertebrates react poorly, cut the dose by 50% and continue treatment.

Good to Know

  • The water may turn slightly cloudy at first. This is temporary.
  • Phosphate test kits may show false-positive readings after treatment.
  • Brightwell notes it is not a substitute for good husbandry: sensible feeding, quality salt and regular water changes.

Why did my water get cloudy?
A slight, temporary cloudiness is normal right after dosing while the bound phosphate is filtered or skimmed out.

My test still shows phosphate. Is it working?
Brightwell notes that test kits can show false-positive phosphate readings after treatment.

How fast should I bring phosphate down?
Slowly. Brightwell recommends spreading the reduction over 7 to 8 days or longer, and never more than 6 drops per 10 US gallons per day.

Can I use it in freshwater?
