CaribSea Elephant Skin Rock

CaribSea Elephant Skin Rock is a light grey aquascaping stone with a deeply wrinkled, weathered surface that gives it its name. It belongs to CaribSea's Exotica freshwater rock line, stones selected from around the world for freshwater aquascapes, and CaribSea makes it with no paints, dyes or plastic coatings. The rounded edges are easier on fish with long, delicate fins, and the cracks and folds give shrimp cover and give you places to anchor mosses and epiphytes. Pair it with our aquarium plants.

How to Aquascape With It

• Rinse and scrub each piece under tap water to clear away dust before it goes in the tank.
• Work in odd-numbered groups and vary the piece sizes, then set one larger stone as the focal point.
• Bed the bases into the substrate so the stones look like they are emerging from the ground rather than sitting on it.
• CaribSea suggests building Exotica scapes over its own freshwater substrates, such as the Super Naturals sands.
• Glue or tie mosses and epiphytes into the folds, and let them grow over the stone.

Many aquascapers plan on roughly 1 to 2 pounds of rock per gallon, though it depends on how much stone you want on show. Buying per pound lets you start small and add more later.

Will it change my water chemistry?
CaribSea does not publish a pH or hardness rating for Elephant Skin Rock. If you keep soft-water species such as discus or wild bettas, test your water for a few days after adding new hardscape.

Do I need to clean it first?
Yes. Rinse and scrub each piece under tap water to remove dust before it goes in the tank. Skip soap and detergents.

Can I buy just a few pieces?
Yes. Pick the pieces you like and we sell them by the pound. Take the 25 lb box if you are scaping a larger tank.
