How much substrate do I need?
For a natural look, 1 lb per gallon gives about a 1-inch bed. One 20 lb bag covers roughly a 20-gallon tank at 1 inch, or a 10-gallon tank at 2 inches.

Do I need to rinse it before use?
Yes. Rinse a few pounds at a time in a clean bucket until the water runs from milky to just slightly cloudy. This removes fine dust that can cloud your tank.

Will it affect my water parameters?
No. Maui Moon is pH-neutral and inert — it won't change pH, GH, or KH. Safe for planted tanks, community tanks, shrimp, and sensitive species.
