Full Gold Guppy (Poecilia reticulata)
Your order is reserved — we hold off on bagging until you arrive, so it stays healthy in its display tank.
The Full Gold Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) is one of the most striking color morphs of the classic fancy guppy — a solid, metallic-gold body that catches every angle of tank light. Hardy, peaceful, and beginner-friendly, full golds are an easy way to add living color to a planted community tank. Each fish is hand-selected from our display systems at Squeaky's Aquatics.
Pair them with peaceful schooling fish like Neon Tetras, Panda Corys, or algae-eating Nerite Snails — or browse our full freshwater fish collection for more community-tank companions.
Care Guide
- Care Level: Beginner — very hardy and forgiving of typical tap-water parameters.
- Tank Size: 10 gallons minimum for a small group; 20+ gallons recommended for breeding colonies.
- Water Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C).
- pH: 6.8–7.8 — thrives in slightly hard, alkaline water.
- Hardness: 8–12 dGH. Guppies do best in moderately hard water; very soft water can shorten their lifespan.
- Diet: Omnivore. Feed a quality flake like Ocean Nutrition Brine Shrimp Plus Flake daily, supplemented with frozen brine shrimp, daphnia, and blanched vegetables. Small mouths — crush flakes if needed.
- Lifespan: 2–3 years with good care.
- Acclimation: Drip acclimate over 30–45 minutes if your home water differs from ours. Skip a sudden temperature or pH swing.

Compatibility
Great tank mates: small peaceful community fish — Neon Tetras, Emperor Tetras, Panda Corys and other Corydoras, otocinclus, harlequin rasboras, and platies. Nerite snails make excellent cleanup partners.
Avoid: fin nippers (tiger barbs, serpae tetras), aggressive cichlids, and large predatory fish. Adult guppies may eat their own fry — provide dense plant cover or a breeder box if you want babies to survive.
Sex ratio: if you keep mixed sexes, aim for at least 2–3 females per male so the ladies don't get harassed.

FAQ
Are these males or females?
Full Gold Guppies are typically sold as males — they show the most vivid solid-gold coloration and longer flowing fins. If you need a specific sex or pair, give us a call or come by the shop and we'll grab them out of the display tank.
Will the color stay this gold?
Yes — the Full Gold trait is genetically stable in captive-bred lines. Color intensity is brightest with good lighting, a varied diet, and low-stress tank conditions. Skimpy diets and dull lighting will mute the metallic gold sheen.
How many can I keep together?
Guppies are social and look best in groups of 5+. A 10-gallon tank comfortably holds 5–6 males; bump up to 20 gallons if you plan to keep mixed sexes (they breed prolifically).
What's the difference between Full Gold and regular fancy guppies?
Full Gold is a selectively bred color strain — a uniform solid metallic gold body, with no patterning or color breaks. Standard fancy guppies show mixed colors, spots, and tail patterns. Full Golds give you a clean, jewel-like look in a planted tank.
