Pink Lady Nerite Snail - Algae Eating
The Pink Lady Nerite Snail (Clithon sowerbyanum) is a tiny but stunning freshwater snail prized for its vibrant pink shell with dark markings. Despite their small size, these snails are algae-eating powerhouses — efficiently cleaning glass, plants, and decor of green spot algae, diatoms, and biofilm. Peaceful, beginner-friendly, and safe with shrimp, they make an excellent addition to any planted or community tank.

Pink Lady Nerites are entirely peaceful and one of the most popular algae-eaters for community tanks. They require a secure lid as they are known to climb out. They will not harm plants or other tank inhabitants.
Good tank mates: Community fish, shrimp (cherry, Amano), other nerites, mystery snails, Corydoras, peaceful tetras.
Avoid: Loaches, pufferfish, cichlids, assassin snails, and any tank using copper-based medications.
Will they overpopulate?
No. Nerite snails require brackish water to breed. In a freshwater tank they may lay eggs that will not hatch, so population is self-limiting.
How many should I get?
1 nerite per 5 gallons is a good ratio. For heavy algae, 1 per 2–3 gallons works well.
Will they eat my plants?
No. Nerites are strict algae grazers and leave live plants alone.
Why did my nerite flip upside down?
Nerites can't right themselves if they land on their back. Gently turn them over.
