Peacock Moss (Taxiphyllum sp. 'Peacock')
Peacock Moss (Taxiphyllum sp. 'Peacock') is a beautiful aquarium moss prized for the fan-shaped, peacock-feather growth pattern its fronds form under good light. It attaches to driftwood and rock, needs no CO2, and is completely shrimp-safe, which makes it a favorite for detailed aquascapes and shrimp tanks. Sold as a live portion cup. Care Guide
Peacock Moss is easy to keep and rewards a little extra light. Tie or glue a thin layer onto driftwood or rock and it will anchor itself over a few weeks, then build up in overlapping, fan-like layers. The signature peacock pattern shows best under moderate to bright light with added CO2, while in lower light it grows looser and greener but still attractive.
Trim it with scissors to keep its shape, and attach the clippings elsewhere to start new patches. It is completely shrimp-safe and holds the biofilm and microfauna that shrimp and fry graze on. Keep gentle flow moving through it to keep the fronds clean and detritus-free.

Aquascaping & Placement
Peacock Moss shines as an accent on driftwood and rock and in moss walls where its fanning fronds can show off. Secure it with cotton thread, fishing line, or a dab of aquascaping plant glue until it attaches on its own.

- Java Moss, Flame Moss, and more live aquarium plants
- Freshwater shrimp and nano fish that love grazing on moss
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get the peacock pattern?
Give it moderate to bright light and, ideally, some CO2. Under those conditions the fronds layer into the fan-like peacock shape. In lower light it still grows well, just looser.
Does it need to be planted in substrate?
No. Peacock Moss is an epiphyte, so attach it to driftwood or rock rather than burying it.
Is it safe for shrimp?
Yes. It is completely shrimp-safe and one of the best mosses for shrimp and fry to graze and hide in.
How do I get my plants?
These are in-store pickup only. We hold your order and cup it fresh when you arrive.
