Seachem Liquid Neutral Regulator
Seachem Liquid Neutral Regulator is the ready-to-pour version of Seachem's classic pH buffer. It adjusts your aquarium to a neutral pH of 7.0, whether the water starts too high or too low, and holds it there. As it works it also softens the water by precipitating calcium and magnesium, and it removes chlorine and chloramine and detoxifies ammonia, so it conditions tap water at the same time. The liquid form makes dosing quick and mess-free, with no powder to weigh out. Prefer to buy in bulk and mix it yourself? See the powder Seachem Neutral Regulator, and check your levels with a pH test kit.
What It Does
- Sets and holds pH at a neutral 7.0 from either a high or low starting point
- Softens water by precipitating calcium and magnesium
- Removes chlorine and chloramine and detoxifies the ammonia they release
- Pours straight from the bottle, no measuring powder required
- Ideal for community tanks and soft-water species such as discus
How to Dose
Use 1 capful (5 mL) for every 10 L (2.5 US gallons) once or twice a month, or as needed to hold pH at 7.0. It can be added directly to the aquarium at any time. Very hard water may need a double or triple dose.
| Goal | Guideline |
|---|---|
| Maintain pH 7.0 | 1 capful (5 mL) per 2.5 US gallons, once or twice a month |
| Very hard water | Double or triple the dose as needed |
A brief clouding of the water is normal as the product softens it, and it clears on its own. Make pH changes gradually so your fish can adjust.

Frequently Asked Questions
My water clouded after dosing. Is that a problem?
No. A short-lived cloudiness is normal as the product softens the water by binding calcium and magnesium. It clears on its own.
Is it safe for planted tanks?
Like the powder, it is phosphate-based, so it is not the best fit for planted aquariums where extra phosphate can feed algae. Choose a phosphate-free buffer for planted setups.
Can I use it in a marine or African cichlid tank?
No. Those tanks need a higher pH. This product targets 7.0 for community and soft-water freshwater fish. Use Alkaline Regulator or a cichlid buffer for high-pH systems.
Liquid or powder, which should I choose?
They do the same job. The liquid is the most convenient for a tank or two, while the powder is more economical for many tanks or a fishroom.
