Product description

Seachem Reef Trace supplies the broad range of trace elements that a reef aquarium needs but slowly loses through uptake, oxidation, and precipitation. Corals, clams, and other invertebrates rely on these elements for healthy metabolism, growth, and vivid pigment, and they are not fully replaced by salt mix and water changes alone. Reef Trace replenishes them in balanced, reef-appropriate ratios and is free of nitrate and phosphate. Round out your dosing routine with the rest of our reef care lineup.

Why Trace Elements Matter

  • Replaces trace elements consumed by corals and invertebrates
  • Supports metabolism, growth, and bright coral coloration
  • Broad blend including boron, manganese, zinc, molybdenum, and more
  • Free of nitrate and phosphate, so it will not feed nuisance algae
  • Formulated to complement, not replace, calcium and alkalinity dosing

How to Dose

Use 1 capful (5 mL) for every 80 L (20 US gallons) twice a week. If you also dose Reef Plus, alternate the two so you add Reef Trace on one day and Reef Plus on the next.

Step Guideline
Routine dose 1 capful (5 mL) per 20 US gallons, twice weekly
With Reef Plus Dose on alternate days

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Reef Trace different from Reef Plus?
Reef Trace supplies trace elements, while Reef Plus adds reef vitamins and nutrition. Many reefers run both and alternate the days they dose.

Will it cause an algae outbreak?
No. Reef Trace is free of nitrate and phosphate, so it will not add the nutrients that fuel nuisance algae.

Do I still need to dose calcium and alkalinity?
Yes. Trace elements are a supplement to, not a replacement for, your main calcium and alkalinity dosing.

Is it needed in a fish-only tank?
Reef Trace is intended for reef systems with corals and invertebrates. A fish-only saltwater tank does not require it.
