UNS Spider Wood on Slate
UNS Spider Wood on Slate is the aquascaper's favorite driftwood with its biggest headache solved. Each piece of light, twisting spider wood comes pre-anchored to a slab of aquarium-safe natural slate, so it sinks the moment it hits the water instead of floating for weeks while it waterlogs. Bury the slim slate base under your substrate or leave it showing as part of the hardscape. The tangled branches are perfect for tying on mosses, Anubias, and Bucephalandra, and the pale wood pops against dark substrate and green plants. Every piece is hand-selected, so come in and pick the shape that fits your tank. Pair it with stone from our hardscape collection and greenery from our live plants.
Why Slate-Mounted Spider Wood
- Sinks immediately. No weeks of soaking or weighing it down with rocks.
- Stays put. The slate base keeps the piece exactly where you placed it, even with strong flow or digging fish.
- Plant-ready branches. Dozens of forks and tangles for attaching epiphytes and moss.
- Light color, natural look. Classic spider wood tone that contrasts beautifully with dark substrates.
- Aquarium safe. Natural wood and inert slate; mild tannins that fade with water changes.
Choose Your Size
| Size | Average length | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 8 to 12 in | Nano and desktop tanks, betta tanks, accent pieces |
| Medium | 12 to 16 in | 10 to 30 gallon tanks, single centerpiece |
| Large | 16 to 20 in | 40 to 75 gallon tanks, focal point |
| XL | 20 to 24 in | 75 gallons and up, large scapes |
| 2X | 24 to 28 in | Big tanks, paludariums, statement pieces |
Setup Tips
Rinse the piece under warm water to knock off any dust, then place it. No soaking is required to sink it. You may see a light tea tint for the first few weeks as tannins release; regular water changes or a little activated carbon clear it, and many planted-tank keepers welcome the natural blackwater look. Attach plants with aquarium-safe glue or cotton thread, and bury the slate under an inch of substrate for a seamless look.
