Product description

Zoo Med Wipeout is the spray for the white crust that builds up along the waterline and around the rim, the hard water deposit that an algae scraper will not shift because it is mineral, not growth. The acetic acid in it reacts with the deposit so it wipes away instead of being scrubbed off. Browse our other aquarium cleaning tools.

Features

  • Removes mineral build-up. Light-blocking deposits on glass come off without scraping, which matters on acrylic and on any tank where you do not want to risk a scratch.
  • 100 percent plant-based. Zoo Med make it from a food grade plant emulsion, acetic acid and deionised water. That is the whole ingredient list.
  • Non-toxic formula. The bottle states reptile, fish and plant safe.
  • No streaking, which is the usual complaint with household glass sprays on aquarium glass.
  • Terrarium, paludarium or aquarium. One bottle covers the lot, so it earns its place if you keep both.

How to Use It

  1. Shake well before use.
  2. Spray onto the glass and leave it a few minutes to react with the mineral deposits.
  3. Wipe in a circular motion with a clean towel to lift the stain.
  4. Repeat on stubborn build-up, then wipe dry with a clean towel or a microfibre cloth.

Zoo Med write these instructions for glass surfaces. For the inside of a tank that still has water and livestock in it, spray onto the cloth rather than into the tank, and rinse the glass afterwards. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a disinfectant?
No, and it is worth being clear because some retailers list it as one. Wipeout is a glass cleaner for mineral deposits. Zoo Med's disinfectant is a different product, Wipe Out 1.

Will it remove algae?
Not its job. Algae comes off with a scraper or magnet. Wipeout is for the hard white mineral film that scraping leaves behind.

Can I use it on acrylic?
It is a spray and wipe rather than an abrasive, which is exactly what you want on acrylic. Test a small area first, as you would with anything.

Does it smell of vinegar?
It contains acetic acid, so yes, mildly. It clears as it dries.

Is it safe around my fish?
The label states the formula is non-toxic and reptile, fish and plant safe. Even so, spray the cloth rather than the water and wipe the glass down afterwards.
