Bulldawg Reef Juice Elite | 8-Species Live Phytoplankton for Reef Tanks
Bulldawg Reef Juice Elite is a premium 8-species live phytoplankton blend formulated to feed everything in your reef — from corals and clams to copepods, brine, rotifers, and other zooplankton. The 1.5 to 32 micron particle range covers every filter feeder in the tank, so nothing goes hungry.
Pairs perfectly with our corals and the rest of our saltwater lineup.
- 8 live phytoplankton species — Nannochloropsis, Thalassiosira, Tisochrysis, Tetraselmis, Isochrysis, Chlorella, Nannochloris, and Chaetoceros
- 1.5–32 micron particle range — sized to feed corals, clams, sponges, copepods, rotifers, brine, and other filter feeders
- Loaded with omega-3s — rich in DHA, EPA, and ARA, plus high protein content (some species over 50%)
- Reef-safe nutrient export — phyto consumes nitrate and phosphate as it grows, helping keep numbers in check
- Available in 8 oz and 16 oz bottles
- Starter dose: 3 mL per 10 gallons, daily, for the first 2 weeks
- Maintenance: Goal is 1–3 mL per gallon. Increase gradually while monitoring nitrate and phosphate to keep numbers stable
- Storage: Shake daily and keep refrigerated between uses
- Note: Not for human consumption
Nannochloropsis (Nanno) — 2–5 microns. Green-pigmented golden/brown algae. Rich in EPA and ARA, over 50% protein, plus B-vitamins and amino acids. Out-competes pest algae, binds heavy metals, and is a staple food for corals, clams, copepods, brine, and other zooplankton.
Thalassiosira — centric diatom. Excellent food for filter-feeding inverts and a key driver of healthy copepod populations.
Tisochrysis & Isochrysis — small (~5 micron) golden-brown flagellates. High in DHA, the gold standard for larval fish, copepod culture, and SPS coral nutrition.
Tetraselmis — 10–14 micron green flagellate. High protein, immune-boosting properties, and known to enhance growth rates in zooplankton.
Chlorella & Nannochloris — small green algae packed with chlorophyll, carotenoids, and protein. Workhorse species for general reef nutrition.
Chaetoceros — chain-forming diatom up to 32 microns. Larger particles target clams, oysters, and larger filter feeders that smaller species miss.

- Corals — the primary beneficiary of broad-spectrum phyto
- Other reef foods — pair with target-fed coral foods for full coverage
- Additives & supplements — amino acids and trace elements complement phyto
- Salt mixes — clean water changes are essential when dosing live foods
How often should I dose?
Daily. Phytoplankton has a short useful life in the water column, so consistent daily dosing keeps a steady food supply for filter feeders rather than a feast-or-famine cycle.
Will it raise my nitrates and phosphates?
The opposite, generally — live phyto consumes both as it grows. That said, dosing live foods adds bioload, so monitor your nitrate and phosphate weekly and adjust dose if numbers climb.
How long does it stay good?
Refrigerated and shaken daily, live phyto typically stays viable for 4–6 weeks from manufacture. Color shifting from green to yellow or any sour smell means it's time to replace.
Freshwater compatible?
No — Reef Juice Elite is formulated for saltwater reef tanks. The species in this blend are marine.
