Why New Life Spectrum Betta
- Krill (Euphasia superba) and squid (Dosidicus gigas) are the first two ingredients, ahead of the whole wheat flour
- 37% minimum crude protein
- Natural color sources in the formula: astaxanthin, spirulina, marigold, kelp and a five species seaweed blend
- Garlic and ginger are both on the ingredient list
- The only preservative listed is tocopherols, a natural vitamin E compound
- Pellet graded for a small mouth, so less uneaten food settling on the bottom
What Is in This Jar
New Life Spectrum makes the Betta food in two pellet grades and two jar sizes. This listing is the Regular pellet in the 25g jar, UPC 817987021313. The Small pellet (0.5mm to 0.75mm) and the 70g Regular jar are separate items we do not currently stock.
Leading ingredients: krill (Euphasia superba), squid (Dosidicus gigas), whole wheat flour, fish (Brevoortia tyrannus), seaweed (Ulva lactuca, Undaria pinnatifida, Eucheuma cottonii, Eucheuma spinosum, Chondrus crispus), kelp, green algae (Chlorella), garlic, ginger, astaxanthin, spirulina, fish oil, marigold, bentonite clay and sea salt, plus a vitamin and mineral pack. The complete list is printed on the jar.
How to Feed
General betta feeding practice, not a manufacturer dosing instruction:
- Offer only what your betta finishes in about two minutes
- Once or twice a day is plenty. A betta stomach is roughly the size of its eye
- Net out anything left over. Uneaten pellets break down into ammonia
- Keep the jar closed and dry, and replace fish food that has been open a long time so the vitamins stay potent

Frequently Asked Questions
Which pellet size is in this jar?
The Regular pellet, 1mm to 1.5mm. New Life Spectrum also makes a Small pellet at 0.5mm to 0.75mm in the same 25g jar. The two jars look almost identical, so check the label line: this one reads REGULAR PELLET.
Do the pellets float or sink?
New Life Spectrum publishes both answers. Their product spec sheet lists the buoyancy as semi-floating, while their own product description calls both pellet sizes semi-sinking. Expect the pellets to sit at or just under the surface rather than floating indefinitely. We have flagged the discrepancy and quote it here rather than pick one.
What is the main ingredient?
Krill. Whole Antarctic krill (Euphasia superba) is the first ingredient and squid (Dosidicus gigas) is second, both ahead of the whole wheat flour.
Is a 25g jar enough for one betta?
25g is 0.8 oz, which is a long supply for a fish eating a few pellets a day. Most keepers replace an opened jar of fish food well before it runs out so the vitamin content stays fresh.
