Orange Venezuela Cory (Corydoras aeneus)
The Orange Venezuela Cory (Corydoras aeneus 'Orange Venezuela') is a brightly colored form of the classic bronze cory: a warm orange body with a dark, metallic green-black patch along the flank. It is just as hardy and easygoing as its bronze cousin, so it suits beginners and fits nearly any peaceful community tank. Browse our freshwater livestock and supplies to round out the tank.
Care Guide
- Group size: 6 or more. Cories are social and much more active and confident in a group. They also school happily with other cory species.
- Tank: 20 gallons or larger, with plenty of open bottom space to forage.
- Substrate: soft sand or smooth, fine gravel. Sharp gravel wears down their barbels.
- Water parameters: 72 to 79°F, pH 6.0 to 8.0. Very adaptable, but keep nitrate low with regular water changes since they live right on the substrate.
- Feeding: omnivore. Feed sinking pellets or wafers like Hikari Mini Algae Wafers so they eat directly, rather than relying on leftovers. Frozen or live worms make a great treat.

FAQ
Is the orange color natural?
Yes. It is a natural color form of Corydoras aeneus from Venezuela, not dyed or painted.
Will it clean my tank?
It eats leftovers, but it is not a cleaner. Feed it sinking food on purpose.
Why does it dart to the surface?
Cories gulp air and swim back down. It is normal behavior.
Can it mix with other cory species?
Yes, and mixed groups often school together. Six or more cories total keeps them comfortable.
