Piscine Energetics PE Frozen Calanus is whole Calanus finmarchicus, an Arctic copepod sustainably harvested at the stage when it is naturally packed with essential fatty acids, then flash frozen so that nutrition stays locked inside each animal. The bright orange color comes from astaxanthin at 120 ppm, which shows up in your fish and corals as deeper reds and oranges. At roughly the size of a large brine shrimp it suits small-mouthed fish such as anthias, dragonets, wrasses, clownfish and cardinals, LPS corals like Goniopora, Duncans and blastos, and freshwater favorites like bettas, discus and angelfish. How to Feed

1. Pop out one cube, or break a portion off the flat pack, and return the rest to the freezer immediately.
2. Thaw it in a cup of tank water, or drop it straight in; PE says either method works.
3. Pour into a high-flow area, or target feed corals and shy fish with a baster.
4. Feed only what the tank clears in a few minutes and remove any leftovers.

Keep the pack frozen and never refreeze a thawed portion.

FAQ

How is Calanus different from mysis? Calanus is a much smaller copepod with far more astaxanthin and fat per bite. Use it for color, for small mouths and for corals; use mysis as the bulk staple.

Can I feed it to corals? Yes. Target feed LPS, anemones and filter feeders with a thawed portion in a baster, with pumps low for a few minutes.

Does it work in freshwater? Yes. PE recommends it for small-mouthed freshwater omnivores and carnivores such as bettas, discus and angelfish.

Why pickup only? It has to stay frozen. We keep it in the store freezer and hand it to you at pickup instead of risking a thawed pack in a shipping box.
