Product description

In-store pickup only. This frozen food stays in our freezer until you arrive, so it reaches you solidly frozen.

Rod's Food Pacific Plankton is a single-ingredient frozen treat: whole Pacific plankton (Euphausia sp.), a small saltwater krill about the size of a large mysis shrimp, packed in reverse-osmosis water and flash frozen. It is naturally loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and astaxanthin, so it doubles as a color enhancer, and its size suits everything from anthias and wrasses to large-polyp corals and filter feeders. Use it as an occasional supplement alongside a staple such as Rod's Predator Blend or PE Mysis, and browse the rest of our fish foods.

Why Pacific Plankton

  • One ingredient: whole Pacific plankton and RO water, nothing else. No fillers, binders or gels.
  • Natural color boost: krill are rich in astaxanthin and omega-3s, the pigments and fats that bring out reds and oranges in fish and corals.
  • Mysis-sized: big enough to trigger a feeding response in fish, small enough for most reef fish and LPS corals to take whole.
  • Handmade in the USA by Rod's Food in small batches.
  • 6 oz flat pack: break off a portion and put the rest straight back in the freezer.

How to Feed

  1. Break a small portion off the frozen flat pack and return the pack to the freezer.
  2. Thaw it in a cup of tank water for a few minutes.
  3. Pour it into a high-flow area, or target feed corals and shy fish with a baster.
  4. Feed occasionally as a supplement, only what the tank clears in a few minutes, and remove any leftovers.

Keep the pack frozen and never refreeze a thawed portion.

FAQ

Is it a complete diet? No. Rod's positions it as an occasional supplement. Rotate it with a balanced staple blend and pellets.

Will corals eat it? Yes. LPS such as Duncans, blastos and acans, plus anemones and many filter feeders, take whole plankton readily when target fed.

Why pickup only? It has to stay frozen. We keep it in the store freezer and hand it to you at pickup instead of risking a thawed pack in a shipping box.

Is it freshwater safe? It is a marine krill marketed for saltwater tanks. Freshwater fish will eat it, but a freshwater-specific food makes a better staple.
