SFBB Plankton 3.5oz
SFBB Frozen Plankton is whole Pacific plankton (Euphausia pacifica), a small krill packed with the natural carotenoids that bring out rich reds and oranges in your fish. It is an excellent color-enhancing food for smaller carnivores in both fresh and salt water, from cichlids and wrasses to anthias and marine community fish. Each 3.5 oz box holds 30 pre-portioned cubes, so you thaw only what you need with no mess.
Pair it with other frozen favorites like SFBB Frozen Mysis Shrimp and SFBB Frozen Rotifers, or browse all of our frozen and prepared foods.
Why frozen plankton
- Natural color enhancer. Plankton is rich in the carotenoids (including astaxanthin) that deepen the reds, oranges, and yellows in both freshwater and marine fish.
- Sized for smaller carnivores. The small krill are an easy mouthful for cichlids, wrasses, anthias, and community fish that find larger foods a struggle.
- High-protein and appealing. Whole plankton triggers a strong feeding response and delivers a rich, meaty protein source.
- Clean, portioned cubes. Individually frozen cubes mean no scooping, no waste, and easy control over how much you feed.
- Safely processed. San Francisco Bay Brand freezes its plankton to help reduce the parasites and bacteria that can come with live food.
How to feed
Pop one cube into a small cup of tank water and let it thaw for a minute or two, then pour it into the aquarium or target-feed with a pipette or turkey baster. Feed once or twice a day in amounts your fish finish in a couple of minutes, and net out anything left over. Do not microwave the cube and do not refreeze a thawed one.

FAQ
Will this really improve my fish's color?
Plankton is naturally rich in carotenoids like astaxanthin, the same pigments that intensify reds and oranges. Fed regularly as part of a varied diet, it helps fish show their best color.
Is it for fresh or saltwater fish?
Both. Plankton is a both-water food that suits freshwater cichlids and community fish as well as marine and reef fish.
What does "for smaller carnivores" mean?
The krill are a small, bite-sized food, ideal for fish that struggle with larger frozen items. Bigger carnivores can eat it too, just in larger amounts.
How long does a box last?
Kept solidly frozen, the cubes stay good for months. Just avoid thaw-and-refreeze cycles, which break down the food and can foul your water.
