Purple Reef Anemone
Your order is reserved — we hold off on bagging until you arrive, so it stays healthy in its display tank.
The Purple Reef Anemone is a striking, photosynthetic saltwater anemone with soft, flowing tentacles in rich shades of purple and pink — a living, moving centerpiece for an established reef. Like other anemones, it may host clownfish, making it both a beautiful and rewarding addition. Pair it with the rest of our saltwater livestock to build out your reef. Note: as a natural livestock item, exact size, shade, and tentacle form will vary slightly from the photo.
Care Guide
- Care level: Intermediate — best in an established reef (6+ months) with stable parameters.
- Lighting: Moderate to high. It relies on symbiotic zooxanthellae, so it needs quality reef lighting.
- Flow: Moderate; tentacles should sway gently rather than be blasted.
- Placement: It anchors its foot in rock or substrate and chooses its own spot — give it open rock with crevices. It may wander until it settles.
- Feeding: Photosynthetic, but feeding meaty foods (mysis, small chunks) once or twice a week boosts size and color.
- Safety: Anemones can move and may sting nearby corals — give it space, and guard powerhead and pump intakes so it can't be drawn in.

Compatibility
Anemones and clownfish are a classic reef pairing — many clowns will nestle into the tentacles. Good matches from our stock include:
Hosting isn't guaranteed — it depends on the individual anemone and clown — but it's common and rewarding. Keep the anemone away from corals it could sting, avoid anemone-nipping species, and guard pump intakes from a wandering anemone.

FAQ
Will clownfish host in this anemone?
They may. Many clownfish will host in reef anemones, though it depends on the individual clown and anemone, so it isn't guaranteed.
Is it reef safe?
With caution. It won't bother fish, but it can move and sting corals it touches, so give it room to settle.
What lighting and tank does it need?
Moderate-to-high reef lighting in an established tank (6+ months) with stable salinity, temperature, and alkalinity. Anemones don't tolerate swings.
Do I need to feed it?
It's photosynthetic, but feeding meaty foods like mysis once or twice a week helps it grow and color up.
