Seachem Reef Iodide
Seachem Reef Iodide is a concentrated potassium iodide supplement that restores and maintains iodide in the reef aquarium. It supplies iodide in the reduced, biologically available form that corals, shrimp and other crustaceans, and macroalgae draw on, supporting vivid soft-coral color and healthy molting in your cleanup crew. Available in 100 mL, 250 mL, 500 mL, and 2 L sizes.
Why Reef Iodide
- Replenishes iodide, a trace element that is used up quickly and stripped out by protein skimming and carbon
- Supports color in soft corals, leathers, and many LPS
- Helps shrimp, crabs, and other crustaceans molt cleanly
- Supplies the reduced iodide form, which is more readily used than iodate
- Concentrated, so a little goes a long way, and offered in four sizes from nano tanks to large systems
How to Dose
Add Reef Iodide as directed on the bottle for your tank volume, roughly one capful per 40 gallons once or twice a week. Iodide is used up quickly but is also easy to overdose, so go slowly, dose to your tank's demand, and test your iodide level whenever you can. Tanks with a lot of soft corals or a large cleanup crew will use more.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I really need to dose iodide?
If you keep soft corals, leathers, or a cleanup crew of shrimp and crabs, iodide gets used up and is worth replacing. Lightly stocked or fish-only tanks need it far less.
What is the difference between iodide and iodine?
Reef Iodide supplies the reduced iodide form, which organisms can use directly. It avoids the oxidizing iodate form, so it is gentler to dose in a closed reef.
Can I overdose it?
Yes, too much iodide is harmful, so dose conservatively, follow the bottle directions for your volume, and test when you can rather than guessing.
Which size should I buy?
The 100 mL and 250 mL suit nano and small reefs, the 500 mL fits most display tanks, and the 2 L is the best value for large systems or anyone dosing several tanks.
