Care Guide

• Tank size: 5 gallons minimum, 10 gallons is better. A real heated, filtered, cycled tank, not a bowl or vase.
• Temperature: 78 to 82°F with a heater. Bettas are tropical, and chilly water leads to lethargy, poor appetite, and disease. Hold it steady rather than chasing a number.
• Gentle flow. A super delta tail is big enough to catch current. Use a sponge filter such as the Hikari Bacto-Surge Foam Filter or baffle a hang-on-back so he can hover without a fight.
• Air gap and a lid. Bettas gulp air from the surface through their labyrinth organ, so never fill to the brim under a sealed cover. They are also jumpers, so cover the tank.

What is the difference between a super delta and a halfmoon?
Tail spread. A delta tail opens to a triangle, a halfmoon opens to a full 180 degree half circle, and a super delta sits in between. Super deltas carry slightly less fin weight than halfmoons, which often means easier swimming and fewer fin problems, with most of the drama intact.

Is a Black Orchid really black?
Close to it. The base is very dark, frequently with a maroon or wine undertone, and blue to violet iridescence is layered over the top. Will his color change?
