Seachem Axolotl Buffer
Seachem Axolotl Buffer locks your water into the gentle, slightly alkaline range axolotls thrive in. It adjusts and holds pH between 7.4 and 7.6 whether your tap water starts too high or too low, and softens overly hard water by precipitating excess calcium and magnesium. Used with a good conditioner, it takes the guesswork out of axolotl water chemistry and rounds out our water care and treatments.
What It Does
- Holds pH at 7.4 to 7.6, the sweet spot axolotls need for healthy skin and gills.
- Corrects from either direction, nudging a high or low starting pH toward the target and keeping it there.
- Softens hard water by precipitating excess calcium and magnesium.
- Safe to dose anytime, add it directly to the tank with your axolotl in place.
- Pairs with a conditioner for a complete, worry-free water routine.
How to Use
Add 5 mL (one capful) per 2.5 US gallons (10 L) twice a week, or as needed to hold your pH between 7.4 and 7.6. It can be added directly to the aquarium at any time. Very hard water may call for a double or triple dose to reach the target range. Test your pH regularly and adjust the dose to keep it steady.

Frequently Asked Questions
What pH do axolotls need?
Axolotls do best between 7.4 and 7.6. This buffer is formulated to reach and hold exactly that range.
My tap water is very hard. Will this help?
Yes. Axolotl Buffer softens hard water by precipitating excess calcium and magnesium while it sets the pH. Very hard water may need a slightly larger dose.
Is it safe to add with my axolotl in the tank?
Yes. It can be dosed directly into the aquarium at any time; make large pH corrections gradually.
Do I still need a conditioner?
Yes. The buffer sets pH and hardness but does not remove chlorine or ammonia, so pair it with Axolotl Conditioner.
