Seachem Axolotl Conditioner
Seachem Axolotl Conditioner is a water conditioner made specifically for axolotls. It instantly removes chlorine and chloramine from tap water and detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, protecting your axolotl's delicate skin and feathery gills between water changes. For a heavy-waste, ammonia-sensitive pet like an axolotl, it is one of the most useful bottles in our water care and treatments.
What It Does
- Removes chlorine and chloramine from tap water so every refill is safe for your axolotl.
- Detoxifies ammonia into a non-toxic form your biofilter can still process, buying you time between changes.
- Detoxifies nitrite and nitrate as well, helping your filter keep up with a messy eater.
- Removes heavy metals found in many tap and well water supplies.
- Non-acidic, so it will not swing the pH your axolotl depends on.
How to Use
Add 5 mL (one capful) per 40 US gallons (160 L) of new or replacement water at each water change. You can add it straight to the aquarium or treat your new water first. For smaller tanks, each cap thread holds about 1 mL. During a nitrite emergency, up to five times the normal dose may be used safely.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why use a conditioner made for axolotls?
Axolotls have permeable skin and external gills and produce a lot of waste, so they are especially sensitive to chlorine and ammonia. This conditioner tackles both while leaving pH alone.
Will it change my pH?
No. Axolotl Conditioner is non-acidic and will not shift your water's pH, which pairs well with a dedicated buffer.
Can I use it in a regular fish tank?
Yes. It is a strong all-purpose conditioner; it is simply dosed and tuned with axolotls and amphibians in mind.
How often should I dose it?
Use it with every water change, and any time you add new water to the tank.
