Fritz Ammonia Test Kit
The Fritz Ammonia Test Kit is a liquid reagent test that measures total ammonia (NH3 and NH4+) in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Ammonia is the first and most dangerous waste compound to appear in any tank, so a reliable ammonia reading is the single most important check during cycling, after adding new livestock, or any time fish look stressed.
Why a Liquid Test
This is a salicylate-based liquid (drop) test, the format trusted by serious hobbyists because it is accurate, easy to read, and far more economical per test than strips. A single kit delivers up to 130 tests, and separate freshwater and saltwater color charts are included so your reading is correct no matter which type of tank you keep.
- Detects total ammonia (NH3 + NH4+), the form that harms fish and inverts
- Accurate in both freshwater and saltwater
- Up to 130 tests per kit for low cost per reading
- Two-solution drop test with an included sample tube and color charts
How to Test
- Fill the included test tube to the line with aquarium water.
- Add the listed number of drops from Bottle 1, then Bottle 2.
- Cap and shake, then wait five minutes for the color to develop.
- Compare the sample to the freshwater or saltwater color chart. A reading of 0 ppm is the goal.

Reading Ammonia? Act Fast
Any ammonia above 0 ppm calls for action. For an immediate safety net, dose a detoxifier and conditioner such as Fritz Complete or Seachem AmGuard. To build and hold a stable biofilter, add live nitrifying bacteria with FritzZyme 7 and keep testing daily until ammonia and nitrite both read zero.
Complete Your Test Bench

FAQ
How often should I test for ammonia?
Daily while cycling a new tank or after adding fish, then weekly once the tank is established and stable.
What ammonia level is safe?
0 ppm. Any detectable ammonia is stressful to fish and should be addressed right away.
Does one kit work for both my freshwater and reef tanks?
Yes. The kit includes separate freshwater and saltwater color charts, so you can use it on any tank.
