Each test comes with its own test tube, reagent solution and printed instructions with a color chart.

Why These Four Tests

• Ammonia. Ammonia is commonly elevated in new aquariums while the beneficial biological filter gets established, and it can reach lethal levels quickly. Test right away if fish get sick or die, and keep a close eye on it during medication.
• Nitrite. Nitrifying bacteria produce nitrite as they break down ammonia. It is less immediately toxic than ammonia, but chronic exposure to even low levels can cause brown blood disease in fish.
• Nitrate. Nitrate is the end product of the cycle and builds up steadily between water changes. Keeping it low with routine maintenance supports fish health and helps limit nuisance algae.
• pH. pH measures how acidic or alkaline your water is. The right range depends on the species you keep, and the wide-range test reads from 5.0 to 9.0.

What does the Master Test Kit test?
Four parameters: wide-range pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. It does not include tests for alkalinity (KH), general hardness (GH), phosphate, calcium, copper or salinity. Fritz sells KH, GH, phosphate, calcium and copper test kits separately, and we carry all five. Salinity is measured with a refractometer.

Does it work in saltwater?
Yes. Fritz states that all four tests work in both freshwater and saltwater.

How many tests are in the box?
Over 600 tests in total, as printed on the box.

What if my readings show a problem?
Water changes lower ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Seachem Prime detoxifies all three, which helps protect fish while you bring levels down.
