Fritz 6 in 1 Test Strips

Fritz 6 in 1 Test Strips measure six water parameters with one dip: pH, nitrite, nitrate, alkalinity (KH), general hardness (GH) and chlorine. They work in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums, and each box contains 100 strips. Fritz notes that the chlorine test is not commonly found on other multi-test strips. What Each Test Tells You

• pH: how acidic or alkaline your water is. Most fish and plants have an ideal range, and rapid pH swings cause stress.
• Nitrite: a toxic byproduct of beneficial bacteria breaking down ammonia. Even low levels damage fish gills and the blood's ability to carry oxygen.
• Nitrate: the end product of the nitrogen cycle. It is less toxic than nitrite but builds up over time and stresses fish at high levels.
• Alkalinity (KH): your water's buffering capacity, which stabilizes pH and prevents dangerous swings.
• General hardness (GH): the concentration of dissolved calcium and magnesium, which affects osmoregulation, breeding behavior and whether your water suits the fish and plants you keep.
• Chlorine: added to tap water by municipalities to kill pathogens, and directly toxic to fish and beneficial bacteria.

How to Test

1. Dip a strip in the water for two seconds, then remove it. Do not shake off the excess water.
2. Read pH, GH, KH and chlorine against the color chart after 15 seconds.
3. Read nitrite and nitrate after 60 seconds.
